For the last 10 years, I have worked alongside Bob Swadling who has passed on to me more manufacturing knowledge than you could possibly imagine. I have made literally hundreds and hundreds of expanded coins, using coins from all over the world.

I decided earlier this year to try and make expanded 50 pence pieces. It has been quite a challenge. Making an expanded shell from a seven-sided coin is definitely a tricky problem. After throwing away, shall we say "a few quid" in the bin, I finally figured out how to expand this crazy-shaped coin. We now have TRUE EXPANDED 50 PENCE SHELLS.

I did not want to have to LINE ANYTHING UP, our 50 pence shell drops OVER ANY REGULAR 50p, just like ANY ROUND shell. Even though the coin is a heptagon, the RECESS is CIRCULAR!!
